Glen Cove is city on the North Shore of Long Island and one of just two cities in Nassau County. Adjacent to the Long Island Sound, it offers waterfront properties and an array of activites for the sealoverl lover from sailing, to waterside dining to a beautiful ridge trail recently openied at the Glen Cove Waterfront park. As its own city, Glen Cove has its own police department, fire department and emergency services personnel. The city offers easy access to Manhattan, with its own Long Island Railroad station and a bus commuter service direct to Manhattan. Glen Cove is truly a city for everyone with an assortment of things to do, excellent schools and beautiful homes.
Glen Cove has as vast an array of parks and nature preserves as an location in Long Island. Most notable is Welwyn, which is the former Harold Pratt estate. It's a densely wooded preserve that offers a number of nature trails to explore, including streteches along the Long Island Sound shoreline. Trailgoers can spy more than 100 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The preserve is also home to the Holocaust Memorial and Educational Center, which offers programs teaching the history of the Holocaust to everyone from Long Island students to members of the Nassau and Suffolk police departments, who are required to take courses at the center.
There are a number of other parks to enjoy - most prominent among them being Morgan Memorial Park, which offers visitors picnic and sunbathing areas, as well as a number of trails along high bluffs with sweeping views of the harbor below.
The waterfront offers even more recreational options. Nautical enthusiasts can have their pick of three world class sailing clubs: Hempsted Harbour Yacht Club, Glen Cove City Yacht Club and the Garvies Point Boating Association. For those with an interest in sailing, but no desire to learn the ins and outs, races can be watched on select weekday and weekend evenings from neighboring cliffs.
Serviced by the Glen Cove City School District, Glen Cove offers excellent public school options. Glen Cove High School, in fact, scores among the best schools in the state and count on Advanced Placement testing. The city also has several well-respected private schools. The city is also home to Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, which is a four year college.
