Without question, Garden City is one of the most desirable places to live on Long Island. Founded by visionary Alexander Turney Stewart in the mid-19th century, Garden City is a beautiful, carefully planned community in the very center of Nassau County. Most of the historic homes and large estates can be found in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, but the unincorporated hamlets also offer handsome suburban homes with tree-lined streets.
As one would expect of such a well-regarded community, the Garden City School District is top-notch.
As the home of Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City arguably offers residents the best shopping on Long Island. Roosevelt Field is the largest mall on Long Island and has everything from large department stores such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, to boutique luxury shops (not to mention a huge food court and multiple restaurants).
As if that were not enough, Franklin Avenue, in Garden City's downtown area, also has many high-end stores, restaurants and bars. Also located along Franklin Avenue and Old Country Road are numerous low-rise luxury office buildings, which serve as popular offices for companies and various types of professionals.
The Garden City Hotel, built on the site of the original historic hotel of the same name, is considered by many to be the premier hotel in Nassau County. You would only need to stay one night to know why.
If travel by rail is your preferred mode of commuting into and out of New York City, there may be no more convenient place for you to live on Long Island. Garden City residents have their pick of Long Island Rail Road stations at Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulvevard, Garden City, Country Life Press and Merillon Avenue. As if that weren't enough of a selection, Garden City residents closer to the borders of other towns can also easily get to the New Hyde Park, Mineola and Hempstead train stations.
