When it comes to friendly communities offering easy access to all parts of the Island and New York City, the "Bellmores" (North Bellmore and Bellmore proper) are tough to beat. Centrally located on the south shore of Nassau County, Bellmore offers its residents a short trip to most areas of Nassau and a reasonable commute to New York City by train or by car.
The downtown area of Bellmore, located on Bedford Avenue just north of Sunrise Highway, has plenty of places to shop or grab dinner and dessert. Bellmore's Chamber of Commerce does an outstanding job of providing community activities such as the weekly Friday Night Car Show (during the warm season) at Bellmore's Long Island Railroad station, and the Bellmore street festival held on Bedford Avenue each fall.
Bellmore and North Bellmore residents are primarily served by Bellmore Public Schools (K-6th grade) and the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District (7th through 12th grade), with students in southern Bellmore attending John F. Kennedy High School, and students in northern Bellmore attending Mepham High School.
